The Missing Piece - Lesson

The Missing Piece
(Introductory Lesson)

Today I found a children's book that has many bible stories for young children.  Inside it is signed with love, Happy Easter, to a boy named Josh from his parents, 2005.  I found it at Good-Will, it didn't look used hardly at all.  It is filled with jigsaw puzzles of pictures illustrating bible stories.  Everything  in it is in perfect condition, but it has one puzzle piece missing on the first story of Adam and Eve.
When I found it, my younger 23 year old daughter said she saw it and wanted to buy it, but it had a missing piece.  Eves face could still be seen, it was just that the puzzle piece was missing.  As I was determining whether I wanted to buy it,  I was reminded by my 29 year old daughter of the missing piece of people without Christ in their heart and lives.
It struck me as I realized that Adam and Eve had lost face, because that was the puzzle piece that was missing.  Parts of their faces are the only piece missing from the book.  I wonder how many times Eve must of blamed herself for talking her husband into doing something God told them not to do.  Adam too must have wished he had done things differently.
How sad it is to know that Adam and Eve lived in a perfect world and had a perfect relationship with God only to find themselves hiding from God because they chose to disobey Him.  They lost something that day they would never get back, at least in this world.  A perfect happy sinless world and a perfect relationship with God.  All of life changed for them, all of nature even changed.  Sin had entered into a perfect sinless existence.
All of this reminded me of the apple themed lessons  for the children.  Though an apple most likely was not the fruit that was called the" forbidden fruit."   The fact is "that at the moment they ate of it,  they started to die physically.
So after saying all this, because of sin entering into the world, all people are born with something missing.  We are missing that relationship with God and salvation that comes by having that relationship.  There is only one way to restore a relationship between God and people.  With Adam and Eve, they had to make a yearly sacrifice.  The sacrifice supplied a temporary covering of sin.  It was then that God would draw close to them.
The blood sacrifice was a foretelling of the spotless lamb of God, God's Son, who would die and supply a permanent washing away of sin, offered to all people.  God has offered the gift of salvation to all who will believe and receive Christ, turning away from one direction of life to follow after the things of God.
Jesus asks those who believe, to follow Him.  Follow His direction, follow His ways.  This is repentance.
We no longer follow after our own ways but follow after the ways of Christ.

It's upon believing and the receiving of Christ into our hearts and life that God restores this missing piece.  A real relationship with God, that happens only through Christ.

Loving parents give their children gifts, such as a book filled with learning for their small child.  A book about God.  I hope one day that Josh will find that missing piece.  Maybe he already has.
How About You?

  God has made salvation simple enough that children can understand it.  Jesus said,  let the little children come unto me and forbid them not.

Genesis 2:16 -17
And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:
 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

Father God,  I pray for each one here today.  I pray you will help them understand that God has provided  a way to restore that missing piece in the hearts of mankind.  Christ gave his life and took upon himself our sins at the cross. Your desire dear God, is that we are forgiven of our sins and become your children and a pray that each person here will see that they need forgiveness for their sins.  Open the eyes of those who need salvation today and save their souls for Christ sake.  Amen.

If you have the missing piece to this puzzle could you please send it to me.  Thank-you.

My God Was By My Side

My God Was By My Side

I sat upon the cool green grass;
I played my harp and praised.
The sheep were grazing in the field;
While watching ore I prayed.

I knew that God was blessing me;
I praised Him all day long.
Each time I boldly asked of Him;
He helped me to be strong.

I watched the fold so faithfully;
I would not let them stray.
I lead them by the waters calm;
I cared for them each day.

When danger came to threaten them;
My sling, I took in hand.
I slung a stone up in the air;
I bravely  took a stand.

God gave me strength to make a stand;
Even though I was small.
I knew God could do anything;
Anything at all.

No giants are giant enough;
When with Him we abide.
Greater is He that is in me;
My God was by my side.

 God gave me strength to make a stand;
Even though I was small.
I knew God could do anything;
Anything at all.

The Shepherd Loves His Sheep

Bible Images
The Shepherd Loves His Sheep

David was a shepherd over the sheep of His Father's flock.  He made sure they were safe and made sure they were cared for.  If a wolf came along to hurt one of them.  He would either kill it or run it off.  Shepherds, like David,  would sometimes use their staff to keep danger away.  Many times shepherds would use their staff to pull the sheep from harm or pull them to the place they needed to be.
David is known in scripture for His ability to cast stones with his leather sling.  He watched over the flock and He lead  them to green pastures to graze.  He would damn up a place within a brook so the waters would be still for them.  Sheep will not drink water from a moving source.  I see David sitting, leaning up against a tree, strumming His harp as he sang  praises unto the Lord.  I'm sure His singing brought comfort to the flock, surly they knew His voice.

If one of the sheep would wander away, he would search for it until He found it.  Each one of His father's sheep were important and valued.
Jesus, is our shepherd.  Jesus leads us and supplies our needs.  He doesn't want us to wander away from him.  Each one of us are important to him.  He wants us to follow him and live our lives for him.  There are things in the world that could pull us away from where we need to be.  Where do we need to be? Safe within His will for our lives.

Like the sheep, sometimes people wander away from God into some kind of sin.  Or they choose a life that just doesn't include God.  Either way it is called living a life of sin.  Even if the person is the sweetest most giving person in the whole wide world and does not fully trust Christ or does things without the right motivation, those works are counted as filthy rags to God.

David's father's sheep stayed within the safety of the flock.  If danger were near the flock, the shepherd would call out a warning signal and the flock would huddle together tightly.  The enemy of the sheep would go for the one straggling behind, the one outside the huddle.

The shepherd knows each one of His sheep by name and God knows each of us by name.  If one lamb was straggling behind.  I'm sure David would call to that one by name and offer His arms of safety.   He would not just sit by at let that one be torn to pieces by a fierce wolf.

Jesus is the Great Shepherd of our souls, of our lives and He laid down His life for us.    He is the comforter that lives within the heart of every believer.  He leads us and directs our paths.  Keeps us in the safety of His will  and empowers us in His arms of  His strength.

The bible speaks of a shepherd that left His 99 sheep in order to search for the one that wandered away.  He did not give up until He had that one lamb within His arms, carrying it back to the fold.

Do you know God loves us that way too. He calls to that wandering one, "come home to me."  He calls to people through the preaching of His Word.  He speaks to our hearts in a still small voice.  Just as a shepherd calls for his sheep.  He calls for you to follow Him, give your life to Him. Know , He gave his life for us at Calvary and paid our sin debt.    That we could become children of God.

Father God,  I pray for each one here , that you will speak to their hearts and help them understand the lesson today about your love for us as our Great Shepherd.  Thank you for being the Great Shepherd who watches over us daily as we live our lives.  Help us to live our lives pleasing to you and lead us within your will.  In Jesus Name I Pray This. Amen

1Peter 2:25
For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls

Matthew 18:12
How think ye? if a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seeketh that which is gone astray?

Matthew 18:13
And if so be that he find it, verily I say unto you, he rejoiceth more of that sheep, than of the ninety and nine which went not astray.
