THE DANGER THAT LURKS

©2026 Susan Barker Nikitenko

Night settled over the small mountain town of Havenridge like a velvet curtain, soft but hiding shadows. Most people slept peacefully, unaware that danger had begun to move quietly between the houses — danger wearing a friendly smile by day and a mask of darkness by night.

His name was Outlaw, and he had a habit of listening at windows that were not his, leaning close to doors that did not belong to him. He wanted secrets — not to help, but to twist, to stir, to destroy.

But Outlaw didn’t know that someone else walked the night as well.

A tall figure, clothed in light no darkness could swallow, moved silently along the ridges and rooftops. God’s Angel, unseen by human eyes, carried a small crystal vial. Inside it shimmered something precious — the tears of God’s people, gathered with tenderness, guarded with holy fire.

Tonight, more tears would fall.
Tonight, justice would begin.

🌑 THE BROTHERS OF TROUBLE

In a small house on Lantern Street lived two brothers: Anger and Mistrust. They were not bad men, but they were wounded men — and wounded men often bleed on those who never cut them.

Anger paced the living room, fists tight.
Mistrust sat by the window, staring into the dark.

“They’re talking about us again,” Anger growled.
“I heard them,” Mistrust whispered. “Someone outside… listening.”

Outlaw smiled in the shadows outside their home.
He loved this.
He lived for this.

🌧️ THE TEARS OF FAITHFUL

Across town, in a little cottage with a flickering porch light, lived a woman named Faithful. She prayed every night for her neighbors — even the ones who hurt her. Even the ones who whispered. Even the ones who misunderstood.

Tonight, she knelt beside her bed, tears slipping down her cheeks.

“Lord… I don’t know what’s happening in our town. But You see. You know. Please help us.”

God’s Angel stepped into her room, unseen, and caught each tear in the crystal vial. The liquid glowed brighter.

“Your tears are not wasted,” the angel whispered, though she could not hear. “They are evidence.”

 “Greed Was Their Motive”

But beneath all the whispers, beneath the shadows Outlaw stirred, there was a deeper rot spreading through Havenridge — greed. It slithered quietly through the hearts of those who wanted more than God had given, more than they had earned, more than they deserved. Greed had a voice, smooth as oil and cold as stone. It whispered to Outlaw, to his hidden partners, to those who pretended friendship by day but plotted by night. “Take what is not yours. Listen where you should not listen. Twist what you hear. Turn neighbor against neighbor. There is profit in chaos.” And they believed it. They believed the lie because it promised power. But greed is a cruel master, and every step they took in secret was recorded by the One who sees in secret. Their motive was money — but their downfall would be justice.

🔥 THE NIGHT OF RECKONING

Outlaw crept from Faithful’s window toward Lantern Street again, eager to stir more trouble. But as he reached the corner, a sudden wind rose — not cold, but fierce with holiness.

A voice thundered, not from the sky, but from everywhere at once.

“Enough.”

Outlaw froze.
The angel stepped forward, light blazing.

“You have listened long enough. You have twisted long enough. You have harmed long enough.”

Outlaw trembled. “I—I was only—”

“Only sowing discord. Only feeding lies. Only stirring fear.”

The angel lifted the vial of tears.

“These tears testify against you.”

The wind roared.
The shadows fled.
Outlaw fell to his knees.

🌅 THE DAWN OF TRUTH

Morning broke over Havenridge with a strange stillness. Anger and Mistrust stepped outside to find Faithful walking toward them, Bible in hand.

“Something happened last night,” she said softly.

Anger rubbed his eyes. “I… I feel different. Like something heavy lifted.”

Mistrust nodded. “Like the darkness broke.”

Faithful smiled gently. “God fights for His people. Even when we don’t see it.”

Anger swallowed hard. “Faithful… I’m sorry. For the things I said. For the things I believed.”

Mistrust added, “We were wrong. We let fear rule us.”

Faithful placed a hand over her heart. “We all fall. But Christ lifts.”

The three stood together as sunlight warmed the street — a new beginning, a new trust, a new peace.

Somewhere above them, God’s Angel poured the gathered tears into the river of Heaven, where sorrow becomes strength and justice becomes joy.

And Outlaw?
He was gone — removed, exposed, judged.
Truth had won.

Because God always wins in the end.

Christ Is Our Forever - Teen to Adult

Each day we can rejoice in our hope.  The hope of Christ and the promise of his return.  The hope of heaven where Jesus will brush our last tears away. For, we shall never cry again. We will then know more joy than we've ever known.

Christ is Our Forever

As we hear of the devastating horrific things that happen in this world.  Our hearts feel saddened and disheartened.  Some are traumatized and troubled over the violence and cruelty that happens in this world.

We who truly know Christ, we have a home that awaits us where angels sing and rejoice night and day.

Where sweetness of spirit always persists, and the true love of Christ dwells.  No hate or hurt, no unwelcoming judgment, no violence, no death only peace eternal.

All those that perish in their rejection of Christ will weep evermore within the torments of hell.

We warn people as the Lord has commanded but the world goes on as if there is no God.

Our peace and our hope is Christ for he will carry us away one day to our home awaiting us.

We do not rejoice over the terrible things that happen in life.  We rejoice because we have a Father in heaven to hold us and comfort us through our tears.  We rejoice that this life is temporal and the only

“Forever Home” is heaven.

Every day there is something to cry about.  Someone killed people, people died. Marriages break up, someone committed suicide.  A bomb went off people died on the streets. We could talk forever about the hurt of children or people who die of cancer. These things will happen and our hearts would be consumed

if we let it.

Christ is our forever.  This world will pass away and all of these things will end for us when we enter glory.  God tells us to comfort each other with these things.  We have a place awaiting, that Jesus has prepared.  A place where Godly love is real and shall never be broken.   We will see the most beautiful wave of Christians from all over the world. Every color, singing and worshipping across the golden streets of heaven.  We will see them singing.  We will see them worshiping. We shall do so together in praise of our Father, God Almighty.

Each day we can rejoice in our hope.  The hope of Christ and the promise of his return.  The hope of heaven where Jesus will brush our last tears away. For, we shall never cry again. We will then know more joy than we've ever known.

Jesus is in our hearts and He will be with us always.  He is our helper, our friend, and our comforter.

1Thesalonians 4:16-18

For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

Wherefore comfort one another with these words. (Referring to verses 16 and 17)

1 Corinthians 15:52

In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

Revelations 21:4

And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

(KJV)
