🎬 Scene: The Tangle Before the Tidings

INT. BETHLEHEM HILLSIDE – NIGHT

Soft lanterns flicker across a moonlit field. Two young shepherds — Micah and Eli — tiptoe through the grass, their sandals squishing in the dew. They’re supposed to be watching sheep, but their staffs have other plans.

MICAH (whispers) “Careful, Eli. We don’t want to wake the lambs.”

ELI (grinning) “I’m careful! You’re the one swinging your staff like a sword.”

They turn a corner — and clink! — their crooks hook together. A moment of silence. Then…

MICAH & ELI (together) “Oh no…”

They tug. Twist. Spin. The staffs won’t budge. The boys stumble in circles, giggling and whispering, trying not to wake the flock.

Suddenly, a sheep bleats.

SHEEP “Baaa!”

MICAH “Shhh! You’ll wake the stars!”

The boys freeze. Then burst into laughter. Their staffs finally untangle — just as a brilliant light floods the hillside.

Cue Music: Soft angelic chorus

A host of angels appears above, glowing with joy. The boys drop their staffs and stare, wide-eyed.

ANGEL (gentle voice) “Fear not. For unto you is born this day… a Savior.”

Micah and Eli glance at each other — still tangled in giggles — and nod solemnly.

ELI “Guess we better follow that star.”

MICAH “Just… no more staff tricks.”

They grab their crooks, now held with reverence, and tiptoe toward Bethlehem — sheep trailing behind like a fluffy parade.

🎬 Scene: The Angel’s Commentary

INT. HEAVENLY SKY – NIGHT

The angel, still adjusting the halo that keeps slipping, steps forward into a spotlight of starlight. The choir hushes. The angel looks directly at the audience, wings fluttering with excitement.

ANGEL (laughing softly) “Oh, you should’ve seen it! I mean, really — one moment I was floating gracefully, and the next… plop! My halo slid right down over my eyes. I couldn’t see a thing! So what did I do? I danced. I twirled. I tried to keep it in place, and the children below thought it was part of the show!”

The angel pauses, halo wobbling again, and grins.

ANGEL (with emotion) “And that’s the beauty of it — joy sneaks in when you least expect it. The laughter wasn’t a mistake. It was a gift. Because sometimes the funniest moments remind us that heaven’s light shines brightest when we’re not perfect, but playful.”

The angel spins once more, halo sliding dangerously low, then catches it with a dramatic flourish.

ANGEL (mock serious, then bursting into giggles) “See? Even angels have bloopers. And oh, it was hilarious — because laughter is holy too.”

The choir erupts in gentle chuckles, stars twinkle brighter, and the angel bows with exaggerated grace, halo finally steady.

🎬 Scene: Donkey’s Delightful Detour

INT. SCHOOL AUDITORIUM – NIGHT

The lights dim. A hush falls over the audience. The spotlight lands on a small child in a donkey costume, center stage, blinking at the crowd with wide, innocent eyes.

DONKEY (child voice, full of wonder) “Okay, okay… I know what you’re thinking. I was supposed to walk straight across the stage. But did you see that flower prop? It smelled like marshmallows!”

The child-donkey sniffs dramatically, then turns to the audience with a grin.

DONKEY (giggling) “And then I saw Mrs. Jenkins in the front row — she waved! So I waved back. And then I saw the baby Jesus doll and thought, ‘He looks cold!’ So I tried to nuzzle him. But my tail got stuck in the hay.”

CUT TO: FLASHBACK MONTAGE

• The donkey sniffing a giant paper flower.

• The donkey waving at the audience.

• The donkey gently nudging the manger.

• The narrator whispering, “Just keep walking, sweetheart…”

• The donkey spinning in a circle, tail tangled in tinsel.

DONKEY (with pride) “It was the scenic route, okay? I gave joy. I gave drama. I gave… donkey.”

The audience bursts into laughter. The choir giggles behind their hymnals. Even the narrator chuckles.

DONKEY (softly, with emotion) “And you know what? Everyone laughed. And it felt like love. Because sometimes, the best part of the story… is the part you didn’t plan.”

The donkey bows. The haloed angel claps. The curtain falls.

🌳 **Devotion: “Rooted in Grace, Not Envy”**  

*Based on 1 Corinthians 13:4 – “Charity envieth not.”*

**Opening Thought:**  

Just like a tree needs deep, healthy roots to grow strong, our hearts need to be rooted in God’s love to bear fruit. But when envy, bitterness, and comparison take root, our joy withers. This devotion helps us name those “root sins” and surrender them to the One who gives grace instead.

**Scripture Seeds – From the KJV 1611:**

1. **1 Corinthians 13:4**  

> *“Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up.”*

   This verse shows what love looks like when God is at the center. Envy has no place where true love abides.

A Story of Faith and Virtue 

 Lesson 2: Joseph: A Story of Faith and Virtue  

The sun beat down on the fields of Canaan as Joseph carried food to his brothers. At just seventeen, his heart was full of dreams—visions of greatness, leadership, and purpose from God. But for now, he was simply a shepherd’s son, running an errand for his father.  

As he approached, jealousy burned within his brothers. They hated Joseph—his dreams, his coat of many colors, his father’s favor.  

Then, suddenly, they grabbed him.  

Joseph found himself thrown into a pit, abandoned, left to die.  

But this was only the beginning. His journey would demand faith, virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, godliness, brotherly kindness, and charity, just as 2 Peter 1:4-9 teaches.

Virtue: Choosing Right, Even When Wronged  

Instead of seeking revenge, Joseph remained righteous. Sold into slavery, he arrived in Egypt, serving in Potiphar’s house. He could have been bitter, but he chose faithfulness.  

"And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue..." (2 Peter 1:5)  

Potiphar trusted Joseph, and everything he touched prospered. But then, another test—Potiphar’s wife tempted him.  

Joseph ran, refusing to betray his master or dishonor God.  

For his virtue, he was thrown into prison, yet he remained faithful.

Knowledge: Understanding God's Plan  

In prison, Joseph showed wisdom, interpreting dreams for Pharaoh’s servants.  

"And to virtue knowledge..." (2 Peter 1:5)  

Then Pharaoh had troubling dreams. Joseph was summoned, and through divine wisdom, he interpreted them—seven years of plenty, followed by seven years of famine.  

Pharaoh was amazed. He made Joseph second-in-command, preparing Egypt for the famine.  

Suddenly, Joseph saw God’s plan unfolding.

 Temperance: Staying Humble in Success  

As famine struck, nations begged Egypt for food, including Joseph’s own brothers—the ones who had betrayed him.  

"And to knowledge temperance..." (2 Peter 1:6)  

Joseph had the power to punish them. But instead, he controlled his emotions, testing their hearts, seeing their repentance, and choosing grace.

Patience: Waiting on God’s Timing  

"And to temperance patience..." (2 Peter 1:6)  

From the pit to the prison to the palace, Joseph learned patience. His dreams took years to be fulfilled.  

Now, standing before his brothers, he realized—every trial had a purpose.  

"You meant evil against me," he told them, "but God meant it unto good." (Genesis 50:20)  

God’s timing had shaped him into the leader he was meant to be.

Godliness: Living to Honor God  

"And to patience godliness..." (2 Peter 1:6)  

Instead of boasting in his power, Joseph gave glory to God.  

"It is not in me," he told Pharaoh. "God shall give Pharaoh an answer of peace." (Genesis 41:16)  

His wisdom, leadership, and success—it was all God’s doing.

 Brotherly Kindness & Charity: Forgiving His Brothers  

"And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity." (2 Peter 1:7)  

Now, Joseph had a choice—repay evil with evil or forgive.  

Through tears, he embraced his brothers.  

"Fear not," he told them. "I will nourish you and your little ones." (Genesis 50:21)  

At that moment, Joseph had added every virtue to his faith.

Conclusion: A Legacy of Faith  

Joseph’s story mirrors the spiritual growth in 2 Peter 1:4-9.  

- He trusted God when life was unfair.  

- He chose righteousness when tempted.  

- He grew in wisdom and understanding.  

- He controlled his emotions and stayed humble.  

- He waited on God's timing.  

- He lived to honor God.  

- And most of all, he showed love, kindness, and forgiveness.  

Through every trial, God shaped him into a man of faith and virtue.  

That same process is happening in our lives. Every struggle, every temptation, every painful moment—God is building us into something greater.  

Let’s trust Him, grow in virtue, and allow our faith to flourish.  

Prayer:

Thank You for the story of Joseph, who endured trials yet held firm in faith. May we remember his patience and wisdom, trusting that You are always working for our good, even in the hardest times.

Lord, we also lift up every heart seeking salvation. You offer the gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ, and today, we open our hearts to You. If anyone here has yet to accept this precious gift, let them know that You love them, You call them, and You invite them into Your family.

We surrender to You, Lord. Cleanse our hearts, guide our paths, and lead us into a life of virtue, faith, and love. May we walk in Your truth every day.

When You Love Jesus Coloring Page

When we follow Jesus, WE FOLLOW HIM in our hearts and in our choices in life.

When we follow him and obey him it is because we love him and fear him.

The Bible teaches us that fearing the Lord God is the beginning of wisdom.

We need to trust him and keep close to him.  

Nobody knows what Jesus really looks like.  We must not follow someone because 

we think he looks like Jesus.  If someone were to tell you that they saw Jesus

at the park or downtown, the store or the library. Do not believe it.

The next time anyone will ever see Jesus is when Jesus comes 

back in the clouds to call us home - to heaven.
