God Gave Us Jesus - New Song Or Reading

God Gave Us Jesus

Christmas is Christmas because of God’s love.

He sent to us salvation.

Jesus is the true reason for Christmas.

God with us – incarnation.

God with us – incarnation.

Christmas is Christmas because of God’s love.

He sent the Christ Child to us.

Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas no not at all.

Without the birth of Jesus.

Without the birth of Jesus.

-----------------------------------------

Jesus came to earth to us.

For God so loved the world that he gave us;

Jesus, He gave us Jesus.

God gave us Je- sus.

Precious Jesus.

God gave us Je- sus.

Christmas is Christmas because of God’s love......

For God so loved the world that he gave us;

Jesus, He gave us Jesus.

God gave us Je- sus.

Precious Jesus.

God gave us Je- sus.

God gave us Je- sus.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Christmas is Christmas because of God’s love.

Emanuel dwelt with us.

God gave us a gift a wonderful gift.

The Christmas gift was Jesus.

The Christmas gift was Jesus.

Christmas is Christmas because of God’s love

Without Jesus there would be;

Not a star in the sky to shine above.

And there would be no real love.

No real love, no not at all.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Jesus came to earth to us.

For God so loved the world that he gave us;

Jesus, He gave us Jesus.

God gave us Je- sus.

Precious Jesus.

God gave us Je- sus.

Christmas is Christmas because of God’s love......

For God so loved the world that he gave us;

Jesus, He gave us Jesus.

God gave us Je- sus.

Precious Jesus.

God gave us Je- sus.

God gave us Je- sus.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Christmas is Christmas because of God’s love.

His mercy and grace given;

Are leading people everywhere to find.

That they can be forgiven.

That they can be forgiven.

Christmas is Christmas because of God’s love.

Jesus came to earth to us.

For God so loved the world that he gave us;

Jesus, He gave us Jesus.

God gave us Je- sus.

Precious Jesus.

God gave us Je- sus.

Christmas is Christmas because of God’s love......

For God so loved the world that he gave us;

Jesus, He gave us Jesus.

God gave us Je- sus.

Precious Jesus.

God gave us Je- sus.

God gave us Je- sus.

Song:  God Gave Us Jesus © 2021

 1John 4:10

Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he

loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

Propitiation:   Jesus Paid for Our Offence

Against God with His Death On The Cross.

For God so loved the world he gave ____________________.  If God gave him he was a gift.

When you accept Jesus then you inherit everlasting life.

This is not perfect but it is good enough for you to figure out how it's supposed to go.

I may have time to make improvements another day.

I do not have to do this perfectly this is a record of my song
so that I do not forget it.  Though I will come back and improve upon it.

Learning To Give Tithes and Offerings

Offerings are anything above your tithe.

Learning To Tithe and to Give Offerings

Object Lesson

Malachi 3:8

Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.

Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation.

Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

Give Each Child A Dollar:

Collect change, enough to give each child 3 quarters, 2 dimes and a nickel.

Tell each child that you’re going to give them $1.00 each.

Give the children a clear sandwich bag and a paper slip with the word YOU on it

Help the kids tape the word YOU onto the bag.

Help the kids put their change into the bags, one dollar for each child.

When you are given or paid a dollar give God 10%.   Jesus

When you are given or paid a dollar consider others.  Others

Then keep the rest to save for what you need or want.   Yourself

Make A Class Offering Plate:

Prepare an offering box or plate for the tithe – Make a tag and write the word JESUS onto it.

(kids) Then tape it onto the box.  Use the offering plate each week to take up an offering.

Make A Missions Box:

Make an offering box for Missionaries and the food fund for the needy. – Make a tag, then write the word OTHERS onto it.  (Kids) Then tape it onto the box.

A Practice Giving Of The Tithe and Offering

-Pass the plate around, have each child put in 10% of their dollar.
-Then have them put an offering into the offering box.  - for missions or the food fund.
-They can keep the remainder of the money in the sandwich bag and take it home.
-Now next time they make money at home or anywhere.  They should bring in tithes and offerings.
and give as we have given today.

Scripture

John 11:11:45

These things said he: and after that he saith unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep.

Then said his disciples, Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well.

Howbeit Jesus spake of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep.

Then said Jesus unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead.

And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent ye may believe; nevertheless let us go unto him.

Then said Thomas, which is called Didymus, unto his fellowdisciples, Let us also go, that we may die with him.

Then when Jesus came, he found that he had lain in the grave four days already.

 Now Bethany was nigh unto Jerusalem, about fifteen furlongs off: {about...: that is, about two miles}

And many of the Jews came to Martha and Mary, to comfort them concerning their brother.

Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met him: but Mary sat still in the house.

Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.

But I know, that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it thee.

Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again.

Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.

Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:

And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?

She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world.

And when she had so said, she went her way, and called Mary her sister secretly, saying, The Master is come, and calleth for thee.

As soon as she heard that, she arose quickly, and came unto him.

Now Jesus was not yet come into the town, but was in that place where Martha met him.

The Jews then which were with her in the house, and comforted her, when they saw Mary, that she rose up hastily and went out, followed her, saying, She goeth unto the grave to weep there.

Then when Mary was come where Jesus was, and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying unto him, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.

When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews also weeping which came with her, he groaned in the spirit, and was troubled, {was troubled: Gr. he troubled himself}

And said, Where have ye laid him? They said unto him, Lord, come and see.

 Jesus wept.

Then said the Jews, Behold how he loved him!

And some of them said, Could not this man, which opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that even this man should not have died?

Jesus therefore again groaning in himself cometh to the grave. It was a cave, and a stone lay upon it.

Jesus said, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith unto him, Lord, by this time he stinketh: for he hath been dead four days.

Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God?

Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me.

And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me.

And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth.

And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go.

Then many of the Jews which came to Mary, and had seen the things which Jesus did, believed on him.

But some of them went their ways to the Pharisees, and told them what things Jesus had done.

True Hope Exemplified: Lesson

1John1:7-9
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light,
we have fellowship one with another, and the blood
of Jesus Christ, his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to
forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
(KJV)

 Ephesians 2:8
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
(KJV)

True Hope Exemplified

Today, I want to talk about the love of Jesus.  Jesus even loved people, like lepers, that knew no love.   They had to be separated from other people because their disease was contagious. When the lepers cried out for mercy... to who?   To Jesus.    The lepers were somehow told about Jesus healing others.

Leprosy is a terrible disease, I’m not sure if they have treatments or cures for it today, but I do know they had no cure for it in bible days.  They really had no hope outside of a miracle.   They saw Jesus from far off, entering into the city.  They immediately started crying out for mercy.   Jesus could have just passed by and ignored them.   There were ten men who were lepers in this story, who were once, normal and had families for whom they provided.   They couldn’t even visit them other than screaming from afar.  There was a distance between them and the only way to communicate was by screaming.  Each one grieved the loss of their lives with their families.  One of them could have been a lawyer, or one a doctor, or one a judge.   Leprosy does not care about prominence or power.  It didn’t matter who they were …they became beggars.  A million dollars couldn't have bought them a way out of their problem.  There really was no help anywhere.  They most likely had no water to bathe in or fresh clothes to wear.

My little granddaughter, who’s about to turn four, was coloring the leper coloring page and pointed out the leper on the right side of the page.  She pointed out a problem.  “What is wrong with this leper’s eye?”  she asked.  I said, “Well, leprosy rots away at the flesh.  It can deform an eye, a hand, a mouth, or any part of the body.  Some of them could have lost a hand or a foot completely.  That is how terrible the disease of leprosy is. Leprosy eats away at someone until they die. The lepers in this bible story needed to be saved from a tragic life of suffering and death.

My eldest daughter had chickenpox when she was little.  She had one or two little bumps; it wasn’t even a serious case of chickenpox.  I put her in bed, prayed with her, and gave her a smooch good night on the lips.  Guess what, I got very sick with chickenpox.  I got it from head to toe.  It wasn’t just on my body outwardly, in every possible place.  It was in my nose, in my ears, in my lungs, it was everywhere. I truly, could not walk without difficulty.  I was so sick.

I can honestly say, no one has ever done anything so nice for me, other than my mother.  My husband rubbed calamine lotion all over my body.  Every night he was there to take care of me.  The worst of the chickenpox was a few days.  It was a disease that lasted a very short time compared to leprosy.  There was no end to leprosy.

I heard my brother-in-law telling my husband that He once had poison sumac from head to toe.  He was working outside and got into some poison leaves.  He couldn’t get rid of it.  He had to go to the doctor and get a shot.  Poison sumac breaks your skin out and has painful inching bumps.  It’s very hard not to scratch yourself raw if you have it.  It is very miserable.  The same way with poison ivy, I had poison ivy when I was a very young little girl.  I got it into my eyes, my parents were frantic and didn’t know what to do.  I was scratching at my eyes and they were frightened that I would injure my eyes.  They made a decision to tie my hands back to keep me from scratching my eyes out.  I do not remember my hands being tied back; I just know of it.  I have never forgotten; however, how terrible poison ivy can be. But - leprosy is still much worse.  What about COVID-19? Many people have died and it is more comparable to leprosy than chickenpox….still, leprosy is much more dreadful.  Leprosy is a very slow death.  They had fewer conveniences then than we do now.

The people who had leprosy in Bible times really had no hope.  They were dying in their leprosy.   They discovered their only hope was Jesus.  Jesus was the only one that could heal them.  Jesus heard their cries from far off and told them to go to the priest to be cleansed.  They immediately obeyed.  It was on their way to be cleansed by the priest, that they were cleansed.  All 10 lepers were cleansed by God, not by the priest. They didn’t need the priest.   Maybe nine of them ran to see their families, but only one leper went back to find Jesus.  He went to tell Jesus thank-you.   His parents must have taught him to be a thankful person.  For anyone to say thank-you, most likely, he must have been a person who practiced thankfulness to other people before he ever got sick.  God thought so much of him giving thanks that He put it in his Word.  God makes note of people who are thankful to him.

I once heard a story about a soldier whose life was saved by another soldier.  The soldier, that saved the rescued soldier’s life was left with a permanent injury.  The rescued soldier felt indebted to his friend.

I believe that the leper that went back to talk to Jesus felt indebted and grateful.  Jesus told him to go on his way.  He said, “Your faith hath made thee whole.”

Young People, God’s Word tells us we are saved by grace through faith.  Grace, meaning God’s mercy.  The story of leprosy is a real story that pictures how bad sin is.  Without Jesus, there is no hope for the lost sinner.  Without Jesus, a lost sinner has no hope of salvation.  He has no hope of heaven.  Jesus is the only way.  Jesus himself, says, "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life.  The bible says we are all sinners.  We are not saved by good works, though when we become born again believers, we are to walk in good works.

Believe upon the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved.  Jesus died on the cross for you and arose from the dead.  He has power over life and death.  Your faith, in Christ, is what saves you.  God has offered you salvation, it is up to you to accept by faith the gift of salvation.  Do you want to be saved from your sin?    Do you think the lepers wanted to be saved from their leprosy?  Something to think about huh.  When you get saved you will be ready to tell everyone what Jesus did for you.  Just like the lepers, I’m sure they never stopped talking about what Jesus did for them.  The story of the ten lepers is true hope exemplified.  Hope when there was no hope.  Jesus is the only hope of our salvation.

Father God,  There are people who are looking for hope and they are talking about hope.  Hope is something that was originated by you. We know you love people and your arms are open wide to whosoever is seeking you.  You've been so good to us.  You didn't have to send your son, you didn't have to show us mercy.  Just like the lepers, they found hope in you.  What can wash away my sins? nothing but the blood of Jesus.  I pray all those reading this lesson today will realize, Jesus paid the price of our sin. I pray they will have faith in what Jesus did.  He came to rescue the perishing. Without Jesus, we are perishing in our sins. Just as the lepers were perishing in their leprosy.

Open the eyes of those that need to see.  In Jesus name, I pray this Amen.

Older Children - Adult Lesson

I adjusted this lesson for beginners.

This lesson is for older children.

Luke 17:12-19
And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off:
And they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.
And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go shew yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed.
And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God,
And fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan.
And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine?
There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger.
And he said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole.

Each Step - The Wise Men

If you are visiting today - I encourage you to read our featured post
on the right side of my blog - It's called "We Are Not Perfect"

The Power Of God's Word
Follow The Star

The story of the wise men happened after the birth of Christ.  They sought the child
Jesus who was already born.  They saw the star in the east that directed them to where the child was.

This past week I read a story to my class.  It was about a young girl who received a watch for Christmas.  She absolutely loved her new watch.  She thought it was one of the most beautiful things she ever owned.  It was not a toy watch it was a real one.  Her parents told her to be careful with it.  She promised she would be careful but one night she forgot to take it off in the shower.
She decided to avoid telling them and pretty much lied about it.  If she would have told the truth
they could have saved the watch.

We talked about sin.  I explained that lying is a sin and that stealing is a sin. Not obeying your parents is a sin.   The bible speaks of what sin is and teaches us that all have sinned.  The bible is God's Word.  God gives us direction on how to find Jesus.

An interesting thing is that my granddaughter received a watch for Christmas.  Most people do not use a watch anymore they use their phone.  She remembers the story from Sunday School about the watch.  She was sure to show it to me.   There is a time for everything under the sun.  It is about time we learn to follow Jesus by following His Word, the star that God has given us to follow.

In our Bible story, there are wise men seeking to find Jesus.  I put a star on my bible cover and held it up, then asked the children to follow the star as I walked around with my bible.   I was teaching them that God gave us a star for today. A star that we should follow.
The bible teaches us that God's Word is a light unto our path.  The bible leads people to Jesus.
It leads us to how to live for Jesus.  It also leads us to salvation through Christ Jesus.

We know that Jesus came into the world to save people from their sins. One because an angel of the Lord told Joseph in ....
Matthew 1:21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
Mary also confessed that Jesus was her Saviour:
Luke 1:46 And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord,
47 And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.

Joseph and Mary - knew that Jesus came to the world to save the world from their sin.

John 3:17
For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn
the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

God sent us the way of salvation for Christmas.

Jesus is the only way of Salvation.  When we say He's the only way of Salvation,
We mean, He's the only way for anyone to be saved from hell and the only way to heaven.

Jesus grew up and died for the sins of the world.
He died for my sins and he died for your sins.
That is why He came from heaven to us
on Christmas day.

Why did He do that?  Because God loves us and wants
us to go to heaven.

John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only
begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him
should not perish, but have everlasting life. (Heaven)

Are you seeking the Saviour, the wise men were.  It is very wise to
want to know Jesus and to make Him the most important part of your life.

Father God,
I pray for the children in my class today and all those hearing this lesson.  I pray that they believe upon the Lord Jesus Christ as their Saviour.  I pray that they will seek the Saviour.  Help them to understand
what Christmas is all about.  In Jesus's holy name, I pray this.  Amen

2 Lessons - Jonah - Obedience - Complete

I'm teaching children 1-7 yrs at this time
2 with disabilities  - but the lessons could be adapted for any age.

2 Lessons - Jonah - Obedience
Part 1

I do not get paid - I do not have to do any of this.  I do this because I want to.

God Showing Himself Powerful Through His Wrath
God Showing Himself Powerful Through His Mercy

God was angry with the city of Nineveh and wanted to destroy Nineveh for their sins, but God was willing to show mercy.  He talked to Jonah, who was a prophet (preacher) of God.  He told him to go to Nineveh and warn Nineveh of God’s judgment.  Jonah was not happy with what God wanted him to do. Jonah was angry with the city of Nineveh for how they treated the Jewish people.  He knew that if He went to Nineveh, if they repented God could be merciful to them, but He did not want God to be merciful to them.  He wanted the judgment of God to fall upon them for what they had done to the Jewish people.

He absolutely refused to obey the Lord.  He got on a ship and paid them to take him as far away from Nineveh as possible.   He thought He had outsmarted the Lord God.

It was all peaceful and happy, not a cloud in the sky.  They started on their way.  When they were way out at sea, something began to happen.  The sky started to gather dark clouds.  A raging storm with thunder and lightning began blowing across the sea.  The ship was whipped back a fourth by the forceful winds.  They began to fear for their lives.  They wondered if God was angry with someone. They were looking for Jonah, where could he be?  They found him sleeping.   "We are going to die! Wake up! How can you sleep?  God is angry with someone.  Get up and pray to your God lest we die.

God’s wrath was kindled. The other men prayed to their false gods, but they did not hear.  They started throwing all the cargo overboard.

Jonah admitted to them that he had been disobedient to God.  He told them about the one and only God. They trusted the Lord God Almighty.  They cried and prayed in fear to the living God Almighty.

Nothing worked the ship was going to go down if they didn’t do something.  They threw Jonah overboard.  Jonah was tangled in the waves of the sea. He nearly drowned to death and would have but  Jonah awoke in a dark dripping cave filled with smelly whale digestion.  He had air to breathe.  Fear filled his heart.

God had prepared the whale for Jonah.  He commanded the whale to swallow Jonah.  The female whale is the biggest fish in the sea.  So most likely it was a female whale that swallowed him.

Jonah prayed and cried to God for forgiveness.  He felt as though he had died and gone to hell.  He even called it hell.  He said he was in "the belly of  hell."

Talk about Jonah's Rebellion.

.Memory Verse

Jonah 1:1b  .......go to Nineveh

Below
This picture is just to show you
 that the whale swallowed Jonah.
It didn't happen exactly like this picture.
 He sank to the bottom
of the sea and the whale
scooped him up from sure death.
He was going to die but God used the whale to save his life.

Talk about Jonah's prayers.

Let's name some things He
Could thank God For.

He could thank the Lord he was not dead.
He could thank the Lord he had breath to breathe.
He could thank the Lord that he had a chance to live.
He thanked the Lord that his prayers were heard.
He thanked the Lord that He saw the salvation of the Lord.

Jonah gave sacrifices of praise
and thanksgiving to the Lord God.
Within the whale's belly.

He thought he would die.
but
Salvation Is of The Lord.

Where is Jonah in this picture?

Next Weeks Lesson Below This Point

Part 2
Keep your games up from past lessons to review.
Go over last week's lesson in a review.
Then start off here.

God gave Nineveh 40 days to repent.  That meant many people would die in some disaster.   The sin of Nineveh was great and God became angry at their evil-doing (sin) and their violence.

When Jonah was inside the whale he thought he was in hell.

He wasn't really in hell but there is a real hell for those who will not believe upon the Lord God.

God promised destruction to Nineveh but he really wanted them to repent.  That is why God wanted Jonah to Go to Nineveh and to warn them.  God saw the sin rise up towards heaven.  God knows about any sin in our lives and He wants us to turn from it, just like Jonah going to Nineveh.  Jonah repented of his sin and confessed his sin to God.  He asked for God's salvation, He surely would have died in the hell he was in had he not agreed to go to Nineveh.  God calls us to obey him and love him too.

Does God tell you to obey your parents?  Does he want you to be kind and forgiving?

There are lots of things God tells us to do and also things he tells us not to do.

He knows everything about us and knows what we think and feel.

The most important thing Is.....

The Bible teaches us that we must believe upon the Lord

Jesus Christ to be delivered from the real hell.

Jonah and the whale speak about hell.

That's why God tells us to warn people about the wrath to come.

Not to just grown-ups but also to the young:

God calls preachers and teachers to tell of God's mercy and his grace.

All of Nineveh believed and saw the salvation of the Lord.

Even the King of Nineveh humbled himself fasted and believed in God.

God repented and showed mercy to all of Nineveh.

Boys and girls I'm the teacher that is telling you about these things today.

God wants us to warn both young and old.  Just as he wanted

Jonah to warn the people of Niniveh.

In the story of Jonah, God mentions the children of Niniveh.

God thinks of children.  God cares for children.  He wanted Jonah to remember the children of Nineveh.

Why do we need to warn people today?  People need to know that hell is waiting for every soul that refuses Christ.  Those who refuse his love, and who refuse his Word.

God wants us to warn people just as Jonah was sent, we are sent.

We are sent to tell of God's mercy and forgiveness.  We are to warn people that there is hell to escape and the only way to escape is putting our trust in Christ for salvation.  God saved Jonah’s life through the whale.  God saves us through Jesus Christ his only begotten Son.

God gave Nineveh forty days.  Pray for our country that we do not turn our backs on God.   My fear is that God will see the sins of America rise up to the heavens, just like Nineveh.  Woe to the nation that forgets and rejects God.

Boys and girls, you can call to God in prayer today and ask forgiveness for your sins.  God's will is that you turn from bad behavior and bad attitudes.  Jesus came to die for our sins.  He took our sins upon himself and took our punishment.  Jesus died and was in hell three days and three nights (in the heart of the earth). just as Jonah was in the belly of the whale for three days and three nights. He took our punishment - He was literally in hell.  Why did He do that? Because he loves you and me.  He loves people.  God made a way through Jesus to be saved from our sins and the hell to come. Jesus took our place.  He arose from the dead and proved He is victorious over death and hell.

God showed mercy to Nineveh because they believed and feared the Lord God.  God gave mercy because they repented of their wrong behavior and their violence.

Matthew 12:40

For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so, shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. (hell)

Father God, we pray for each child here, we pray if there is one here that does not know you as their Saviour, that you will speak to his or her heart today.  Help them to understand your Word.  Help them understand your will for their lives.  Help them understand that there is a heaven and that there is a hell.  Help them understand that this lesson about your mercy for all those who will believe upon the Lord Jesus Christ.

I pray this in the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ, Amen.

Teach the class the word "repent"-

Teachers Notes:

When the bible says God repented it means that God gave
them mercy based upon their repentance.
Our repentance is turning away from living wrongly in
God's sight, to living a life pleasing to God.

It does not say Jonah told them about the whale
but I'm sure he did.  God does not do anything evil in the way that we think of it.
God was going to bring judgment upon a nation that was rebellious to him.  God is all-powerful and hates sin.  He would bring about a disastrous happening- Evil means disastrous.

Have the kids guess what the picture under the sun is.
Then show them the same picture with the whale on it.

Jonah told them about the whale
I'm sure he did.  His story was a testimony of God's wrath and mercy.

This could be the coloring sheet as well as a visual on the wall or board.
Have them try to draw the whale.

Jonah 4

The gourd could of been a pumpkin plant.

Jonah cared more for his gourd than even the smallest child in Nineveh.  God wanted him to care more for people.  He didn't have forgiveness in his heart.  God used the gourd to show him he was selfish. He took no thought for the innocent in that city.

Then said the LORD, Thou hast had pity on the gourd, for the which thou hast not laboured, neither madest it grow; which came up in a night, and perished in a night:  And should not I spare Nineveh, that great city, wherein are more than sixscore thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much cattle?

Jonah 1:1-17 and Jonah 2:1- 4:11

Now the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the son of Amittai, saying,
Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me.
But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD and went down to Joppa, and he found a ship going to Tarshish: so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD.
But the LORD sent out a great wind into the sea, and there was a mighty tempest in the sea, so that the ship was like to be broken.  Then the mariners were afraid, and cried every man unto his god, and cast forth the wares that were in the ship into the sea, to lighten it of them. But Jonah was gone down into the sides of the ship; and he lay, and was fast asleep.
So the shipmaster came to him, and said unto him, What meanest thou, O sleeper? arise, call upon thy God, if so be that God will think upon us, that we perish not.
And they said every one to his fellow, Come, and let us cast lots, that we may know for whose cause this evil is upon us. So they cast lots, and the lot fell upon Jonah.
Then said they unto him, Tell us, we pray thee, for whose cause this evil is upon us; What is thine occupation? and whence comest thou? what is thy country? and of what people art thou?
And he said unto them, I am an Hebrew; and I fear the LORD, the God of heaven, which hath made the sea and the dry land.
Then were the men exceedingly afraid, and said unto him, Why hast thou done this? For the men knew that he fled from the presence of the LORD, because he had told them.
Then said they unto him, What shall we do unto thee, that the sea may be calm unto us? for the sea wrought, and was tempestuous.  And he said unto them, Take me up, and cast me forth into the sea; so shall the sea be calm unto you: for I know that for my sake this great tempest is upon you.
Nevertheless, the men rowed hard to bring it to the land; but they could not: for the sea wrought, and was tempestuous against them. Wherefore they cried unto the LORD, and said, We beseech thee, O LORD, we beseech thee, let us not perish for this man's life, and lay not upon us innocent blood: for thou, O LORD, hast done as it pleased thee.
So they took up Jonah, and cast him forth into the sea: and the sea ceased from her raging. Then the men feared the LORD exceedingly, and offered a sacrifice unto the LORD, and made vows.  Now the LORD had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.

Jonah 2:1-10
Then Jonah prayed unto the LORD his God out of the fish's belly,
And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the LORD, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice.  For thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about: all thy billows and thy waves passed over me.  Then I said, I am cast out of thy sight; yet I will look again toward thy holy temple.
The waters compassed me about, even to the soul: the depth closed me round about, the weeds were wrapped about my head.
I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars was about me for ever: yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, O LORD my God.  When my soul fainted within me I remembered the LORD: and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple.
They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy.
But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the LORD.
And the LORD spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.

Jonah 3:1
And the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the second time, saying,
Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee.
So Jonah arose, and went unto Nineveh, according to the word of the LORD. Now Nineveh was an exceeding great city of three days' journey.  And Jonah began to enter into the city a day's journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown.
So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.
For word came unto the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and he laid his robe from him, and covered him with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.
And he caused it to be proclaimed and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste anything: let them not feed, nor drink water:
But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily unto God: yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands.
Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?
And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.

Jonah 4:1-11
Jon 4:1 ¶ But it displeased Jonah exceedingly, and he was very angry.
And he prayed unto the LORD, and said, I pray thee, O LORD, was not this my saying, when I was yet in my country? Therefore I fled before unto Tarshish: for I knew that thou art a gracious God, and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repentest thee of the evil.
Therefore now, O LORD, take, I beseech thee, my life from me; for it is better for me to die than to live.
Then said the LORD, Doest thou well to be angry?  So Jonah went out of the city, and sat on the east side of the city, and there made him a booth, and sat under it in the shadow, till he might see what would become of the city.
And the LORD God prepared a gourd, and made it to come up over Jonah, that it might be a shadow over his head, to deliver him from his grief. So Jonah was exceeding glad of the gourd.  But God prepared a worm when the morning rose the next day, and it smote the gourd that it withered.
And it came to pass, when the sun did arise, that God prepared a vehement east wind; and the sun beat upon the head of Jonah, that he fainted, and wished in himself to die, and said, It is better for me to die than to live. And God said to Jonah, Doest thou well to be angry for the gourd? And he said, I do well to be angry, even unto death.
