My Personal Story:
Years ago when I was a young woman I became very sick with pneumonia.
I became so sick I lost 20 lbs. I became very upset and felt alone and thought nobody in the whole world cared about me. I cried out to God and told him how I felt. I said, "I don't think anybody in the whole world loves me." Then in my heart, I heard God tell me. " I love you Susan" There was a warmth that came over me and I felt as though I was hugged by God. I felt God's love for me.
The Holy Spirit comforted my soul.
In the story, we are about to tell you, there is a man who was left to die and surely felt no one in the world cared about him. I'm sure that he prayed for help from God. Let's learn what happened in our Bible lesson today. Did God hear his prayer?
Introduction
An Example Of Love
"The Good Samaritan"
The
power of God can be seen throughout our lives by what we do for others. There
is a story in the bible that no doubt teaches us the love of God. The whole
Bible teaches us about God's love, but this story has been given to us to help
us understand what love will do. In the story of "The Good
Samaritan, the Samaritan is an ideal example of the love and compassion of
God." If we were to treat someone badly because of what color they
are, is that something Jesus would do? If we say mean things to someone
who is different or withhold help because they are different, is that something
Jesus would do? In the story of “The Good Samaritan”, He
changed his every plan, He went far beyond what most people would do. He is no doubt, a picture of God’s love.
This is another parable of Jesus. There was a man traveling from Jerusalem to Jerico. Suddenly he was attacked by thieves. They robbed him of his money and whatever possession he had with him, including his clothing. He was beaten and wounded and left to die. I'm sure he said to people passing " Please help me." Please help me." A priest walked by him but he crossed to the other side. He would not help him. Then again another man who was a Levite passed by on the other side of the street and ignored him.
Who knows how much time went by when the Samaritan man found him. The Samaritan man stopped and immediately went to give him help. He poured oil and wine onto his wounds like medicine and bound them tightly. He lifted the man up and put him onto his mule or camel (whatever it was). It could have been a horse and took him to an inn. Today it would be called a hotel. There he took care of him. When he had to leave he paid the host of the inn money to take care of him and promised to repay any extra cost on his return.
Jesus asked the question at the end of the parable.
Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves?
And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.
Jesus teaches us to show mercy and compassion. The love of God is shown through mercy and compassion.
Jesus is our Good Samaritan in that He came to earth to save our souls.
God loved us so much that He sent his only begotten Son to die on the cross for our sins.
He shows us love and compassion in that He does not want us to go to hell when we die.
Heaven is the place people go who believe upon the Lord Jesus Christ as their Saviour.

The Biblical Account
Luke 10:30 - 37
And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.
And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.
And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side.
But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him,
And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.
And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee.
Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbor unto him that fell among the thieves?
And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.
