Lesson 7: The Sharp Talon
The Owl Trait: An owl’s talons are incredibly strong and sharp, designed to "grip" and hold on tight. One of the most unique features is the owl's ability to move one of its outer toes back and forth. This allows it to have a "skillful" grip that is perfectly balanced, ensuring it never loses hold of what it has caught.
Character Trait: Discernment (Distinguishing Good from Evil) KJV Scripture: "But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil." — Hebrews 5:14
The Story: Talon’s Firm Grip
In the rocky cliffs lived Gideon the Great Horned Owl. Gideon was a protector. He had the strongest talons in the entire valley. God gave Gideon these sharp tools not just for hunting, but for stability. When the mountain winds blew fierce and cold, Gideon would lock his talons onto the craggy rock, and no storm could blow him off his feet.
Gideon knew the difference between a solid branch that would hold his weight and a rotten stick that would break. This is what we call Discernment.
In the Bible, Hebrews 5:14 tells us that as we grow in the Word (moving from "milk" to "strong meat"), our spiritual "senses" get exercised. Just like Gideon’s talons get stronger the more he uses them, our hearts get better at "gripping" what is good and "rejecting" what is evil. When a lie tries to enter our minds, or a bad habit tries to take root, we use our spiritual talons to push it away. We hold tight to the "Rock of Ages," ensuring our feet are planted on the Truth.
Character Lesson
Exercise Your Senses: We learn discernment by reading the KJV Bible daily. The more we know the Truth, the easier it is to spot a lie.
Hold Fast: When you find a good promise in Scripture, "grip" it with all your might. Don't let the world pull it away from you.
Firm Foundations: Discernment helps us choose the right friends, the right words, and the right path.
KJV Memory Verse: "Prove all things; hold fast that which is good." — 1 Thessalonians 5:21
